About Us

Big firm experience with small firm attention.

Our History

The Walkers have been Rocky Mountain natives for generations and are proud to call the Mountain West their home.

In 1984, John Walker began practicing with the firm that would eventually become known as Hickey & Evans.  While there, he had the honor of working with distinguished legal minds, like John Rooney and Howard V. Scotland III.  During his over 40 years with Hickey & Evans, John routinely appeared in front of the Wyoming Supreme Court, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, and district courts throughout the state. His practice areas primarily included probate, local government law, and a general trial practice.

In 2010, Robert Walker graduated from the University of Wyoming College of Law and continued in his father’s footsteps by joining Hickey & Evans as an associate.  Robert advanced to partner within the organization and was simultaneously appointed as managing partner of the firm.  Robert is grateful for his time at Hickey & Evans where he was able to be mentored by his father while serving clients throughout the state of Wyoming.  His practice areas primarily focused on personal injury, estate planning, probate, general civil litigation, business transactions, insurance defense, employment law, and appellate practice. Robert has regularly appeared before state and federal courts throughout Wyoming, has successfully argued before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals on multiple occasions, and has resolved numerous cases through the use of mediation and arbitration.

Another of John’s sons, Matthew, graduated from law school in 2016 and worked for the courts and in private practice for years. Circumstances never aligned for him to join his father and brother at Hickey & Evans, though he always desired to work with his family some day.

In 2023, John and Robert decided the best way they could serve their clients was to form Walker Law in Wyoming, a firm founded on the desire to provide every client prompt, pleasant, professional, and practical legal guidance.

In 2024, Matthew was able to amicably separate from his former practice to join his dad and brother in accomplishing their legal goals. He had fallen in love with Cache Valley and opened a branch of the Walker Law office in Utah, naming the Utah branch Walker Law Firm of Cache Valley.

With Walker Law Firm of Cache Valley’s substantial “big firm” experience and smaller “boutique” size, we are able to efficiently and effectively meet all your legal needs.

*Only Matthew is licensed to practice in Utah.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to know before meeting with a lawyer?

Before you can become a client, a few formalities have to be met. First, the firm will run a conflict check to make sure our representation would not conflict with any of our other clients’ interests. Once that clears, you will be required to sign an engagement letter that will set for the terms of the representation.

In order for us to complete these important tasks, you will need to provide us your name and contact information, as well as the names of any potentially adverse or other interested individuals/entities.

Please also begin compiling any documents, records, or communications you believe our attorneys should review. In particular, medical and financial records often take large amounts of time to gather – so the sooner you start, the better.

What types of cases does your firm typically handle?

The well-qualified attorneys of Walker Law Firm of Cache Valley are happy to assist with a broad range of client needs, whether they involve appeals, litigation, or transactional work. For a complete list, please visit our practice areas.

Does your firm handle cases not listed in your practice areas?

It is possible that we may be able to assist you with your legal issue even if it is not of the type listed on our website. Don’t hesitate to give us a call to schedule a free consultation.

How soon will I be able to speak with an attorney?

Our staff and attorneys are driven to respond within two business days to most requests.  While we may not have the answer to your question, we strive to keep our clients and potential clients updated so they are not left wondering on the status of their request.  For urgent requests, please call and schedule an appointment to discuss your issue.

Unfortunately, our response time with cold calls, emails, or messages may take a few more days. However, we will still strive to timely respond to any such inquiries.  If you have an emergency, deadline, or statute of limitation concern – please call and let us know, so we can promptly address your inquiry.

Will you take my case?

Our firm routinely accepts new clients and we are happy to discuss your concerns or issues. However, that does not necessarily mean we can take on your case. First, we need to conduct an initial meeting to discuss the nature of the representation. If, after that consultation, both the attorney and prospective client feel there is a good fit, then our office must do a “conflict check” to make sure the prospective representation would not conflict with any other current clients’ interests. Once it is confirmed we have no personal or ethical conflicts, our office will send you an engagement letter setting forth the terms of representation. Once that letter has been signed and the initial terms have been met (often requiring a retainer for us to begin working), our attorney-client relationship will be formally established.

In which geographical areas do you practice?

While our offices are located in Logan, Utah and Cheyenne, Wyoming, we are able to represent clients anywhere within the states of Utah and Wyoming. With modern technologies, we are able to efficiently accommodate all Utah and Wyoming communities and courts.

What if I can't meet in person?

Our office is equipped with all the modern technologies that make coordinating your remote consultation routine. The staff and attorneys at Walker Law Firm of Cache Valley are happy to accommodate you in whatever ways you need.

I have a court date tomorrow, can you help me?

We consider ourselves fire prevention specialists and not fire fighters. If you have been unable to secure an attorney for whatever reason until the last minute, there is likely not much we will be able to do since preparing for court requires days of research and preparation. Still reach out to us to see if there’s anything we can do, but expect that we won’t be able to do much at the last minute.
